Thoughtful & Creative Easter Basket Ideas for Young Kids (That Aren’t Just Candy!)

Spring is in the air, and with it comes one of my favorite seasonal traditions—Easter baskets! But in our home, we’ve moved away from sugar-filled baskets and plastic toys that break within days. Instead, I’ve started filling our baskets with intentional items that my kids will actually use, love, and enjoy well past Easter morning.

This year’s baskets are filled with simple, screen-free, and practical goodies that celebrate spring and spark creativity.

Easter Basket Stuffer Ideas for Young Kids:

  • Sidewalk Chalk – A springtime staple! It’s perfect for drawing on the driveway, creating obstacle courses, or playing hopscotch.

  • Coloring Books & Markers – Great for downtime and encouraging creativity indoors or out.

  • Hand Garden Tools + Flower Seeds – My kids love helping in the garden, and including their own tools and seeds gives them a sense of ownership and wonder as they watch something grow.

  • Small Toys or Games – Think memory card games, small puzzles, or a new bath toy—fun without being overwhelming or cluttery.

  • Umbrella – A child-sized umbrella makes spring rain something to look forward to.

  • Sandals – A cute and practical gift as the weather warms up.

  • Clothing – A cozy spring sweater, new pajamas, or even a fun T-shirt featuring their favorite character makes a great basket addition.

  • Bonus - If your kids have small toys or items that they haven’t played with or used in a long time, add those to the baskets. This limits what you have to spend and it gives the kids a fresh take on an old item.

A Word About Baskets

One of my favorite parts of our Easter tradition is using the same beautiful seagrass baskets each year. I love that they’re made from natural materials, they’re sturdy enough to last through toddlerhood (and beyond!), and they look lovely sitting out during the season.

Choosing reusable baskets means less plastic waste, fewer last-minute runs to the store, and a sweet sense of tradition as the same basket reappears each spring. It’s a small, sustainable shift that makes a big impact over time.

Whether you’re building baskets for toddlers or big kids, these ideas make Easter feel special without going overboard. I hope this gives you some inspiration as you prepare for the season!

What’s your go-to Easter basket tradition? Do you thrift your baskets or make your own? I’d love to hear how you celebrate! 🐰💛
